Next Generation of Chips and Technology

Since the scientific revolution we have seen many advancements in technology. And as time goes on it advances faster and faster. Look at gaming consoles, we went from playing on 8 bit pixels to playing games that are in 8k. Video games have become very powerful machines. Some would even go to say that video games have become PCs because of the power in them.

Although tech is constantly advancing there‘s something that happens where innovation take a giant leap. There is always a big technology breakthrough that advances all tech whether its computers, video games or cell phones, it benefits the whole of technology. Even things like in home appliances and cars ! There is now fridges with screens and interactive AI. You can watch your favorite YouTube videos on your fridge now isn’t that crazy ! Think about Alexa an AI assistant that can order things you need for you, adjust lighting and temperature in your house and answer your questions. These are things some would’ve never thought of.

But that does raise the question of what’s going to beat this, what’s next in technology that’s going to make us look at what we have now and say “I remember we thought this stuff was so advanced”.  Something that plays a big role in all tech is chips. Chips are responsible for enabling applications, algorithms, AI, data processing, and deep learning.

If you play video games and have played versus AI then you see how powerful tech can be. AI has a mind of its own to determine what to do to. A lot of people don’t even realize how advanced that is within itself. Currently once you learn the AI’s algorithm its pretty much easy to beat them. I do believe that soon AI will come to a point where no one can beat them in any game. Which bring us into the next part of this discussion.

Deep Learning

Deep learning is a type of AI that imitates how humans gain knowledge. This makes way for technology to predict things. There was a deep learning AI that predicted Chicago’s crime rate one week in advance with a stunning 90% accuracy. At its simplest, deep learning can be thought of as a way to automate predictive analytics. While traditional machine learning algorithms are linear, deep learning algorithms are stacked in a hierarchy of increasing complexity and abstraction.

To understand deep learning, imagine a toddler whose first word is dog. The toddler learns what a dog is — and is not — by pointing to objects and saying the word dog. The parent says, “Yes, that is a dog,” or, “No, that is not a dog.” As the toddler continues to point to objects, he becomes more aware of the features that all dogs possess. What the toddler does, without knowing it, is clarify a complex abstraction — the concept of dog — by building a hierarchy in which each level of abstraction is created with knowledge that was gained from the preceding layer of the hierarchy.

This is also how google uses translation software as well speech recognition and phones using facial recognition. Tesla’s don’t just get up and drive on their own. They program Ai algorithms to deep learn the rules of traffic and how to drive just like we have to. And as they collect more data it makes them more efficient because they are constantly learning.

Another good example of how deep learning is being used is the Chinese commerce company Alibaba. Alibaba uses AI to collect information from customer and learn what they like and don’t like. They also track what items sell the best, seasonal sells, and much more. They allow the AI to decide what to sell and advertise to increase sales based off info collected from consumers. It is obviously working really well because they are creeping up on amazon at a high rate.

Imagine you having a company ran 100% by AI, from shipping all the way to putting products on the website. Deep learning will be big for the corporate world as a way to increase profit and production, making their job easier, and not having to pay as many people.  We all know that china is always ahead of us by at least 20 years when it comes to tech. I will bet money that many companies them are already testing it. This is part of the reason why collected data is in such high demand, it’s all going to the AI. I’m going to get deeper into data and why it’s in such high demand later.

So what happens when deep learning reaches a certain point ? Well first life will kind of become autopilot. And I say this because for one the AI will learn how we live, from how we like the temperature in the house day and night, how we like our bread toasted, what time we make our coffee, what time we start up our cars, where we are going, etc.

The AI will start to automatically do these things for you to make your life easier. There are smart fridges now that tell you what you’re low on and when your food expires. They also can order the groceries that you are low on. This is where deep learning is taking us, a world where everything will be ran on automated deep learning AI.

Companies will be completely ran by deep learning software like I mentioned earlier with Alibaba. This may sound good because I personally think it is not at all. While the AI is doing everything for us throughout or day what will our roles in our own lives become ?

I see people having more time for consumerism, more time for scrolling, and more time to waste. If everyone had a self driving car how many do you think would be scrolling on TikTok to every destination ? How many would be watching Netflix, watching YouTube, and all other things consumers do.

This will lead to people being lazy because they are so dependent on technology, which we’re already seeing today. Another flip side of deep learning is also the number of jobs it will take away from people. There’s many estimates that sau 40 to 50 percent of jobs will be taken by AI. Yes this will also create new jobs but how long until deep learning AI learns how to create and fix themselves ? Then all the jobs AI created will be gone. Man will no longer be needed to run AI. Now let’s bounce off that with this, who are the AI going to be learning their personalities from ? That’s going to be a big one.

Data Collection

Everyday we produce about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data which is a staggering amount of data. I don’t think anyone in the world can read all this data in a lifetime. But this is more than enough data for AI and deep learning. Have your noticed that your iPhone stops charging at 80% because it knows your sleeping and don’t need your phone, then when you wake up its on 100%. They do this for battery health and they know what time you sleep because of data collection. They know what time you wake up because you set alarms with your phone and turn your screen on at the same time every morning.

This is a perfect example of how deep learning will use data. When you search stuff on google, (which is the number one data collector) this can show what type of person you are. I personally do a lot of research on different topics so from a data standpoint google may see me as an article writer or an avid researcher. If you constantly look up how to dispose a body, how to bury something, and how to clean blood from a rug, then from a data standpoint you will look like a murderer.

Companies collect so much data because they want to meet the needs of their customers. If amazon knows you have a dog then they will always recommend things for dogs. I buy lots of books from amazon and every time I go to amazon they recommend me books to buy. The only way to not get your data collected from these companies is to not make an account with them. That it a big reason they push so hard for people to make accounts or have certain things you can’t do unless you sign up for an account. So if you are purchasing a product from a place you don’t plan on shopping from again I don’t recommend you making an account and giving them your data.

Another example of how data collection is used is location based advertising. If a food app on your phone picks up that your are close to their store it’ll send an ad/promotion notification to your phone. How many times have you told your friends about something you want to buy then 5 mins later your scrolling on social media and see an ad for it. This is another example of data collection. It’s kind of weird to know your phone is listening to you at all times.

In 2021 a staggering 30.61 billions dollars was spent on data in the U.S. alone ! This is big to me because companies make money from our data and we don’t see a penny of it. It’s our data and we should be able to benefit from It even more than they do. If we learn to collect our own data then we shall be able to program AI that meets the needs of ourselves. If there is a way we can get into the data market I 100% think we should. It’s our data and we should benefit.

Data collection and deep learning AI are both powerful together but I still think it is only an upgrade from what we already have, so let’s get a deeper dive into the next level of tech that’s going to shake up the paradigm.

IOT (Internet of Things)

Internet of things is something that you may not have heard of yet so let me give you a brief explanation from my months of research on the specific topic. IOT is a mix of the next world of technology and we are seeing glimpses of this now. Everyday more and more people use the Internet. We use it for work, school, consumerism, and all these other things. When will we reach a point to where immerse our digital and physical worlds together.

Kids nowadays grow up meeting more friends online than In real life, that also raises a question of as time goes on how many more friendships will be digital. Everyday they get together online whether it’s in video games or a phone call, they do it all from the comfort of their own home being hundreds of miles away from each other. This gives VR technology the perfect entry point in modern and future technology.

I. VR (Virtual reality) Technology

Virtual Reality – an artificial environment which is experienced through sensory stimuli (such as sights and sounds) provided by a computer and in which one’s actions partially determine what happens in the environment

I’ll start this one off from a different standpoint. I always hear people say they don’t believe virtual tech is the future for many reasons and the main one being is that no one is really interested in it. Well, most people who say this are older people who are stuck in their older ways. Now whenever I talk to younger people about virtual tech they get excited ; very excited. And that’s all we need for it to be the future of tech. These children are the future computer scientist, computer engineers, coders, and innovators. They are going to be the ones creating this tech because this is what they want.

Most people don’t even see that we are practically already living in virtual reality. Studies show that the average adult will spend 34 years of their entire lives on their phones. The average life expectancy is 78 years old so that means we basically are going to spend half of our lives on our cell phones. That’s just cell phones alone, there is still video games, television, computer, laptops, and other technology many people use. We are already living digitally ! How many people get dressed up and the first thing they think is, “I need to take some pictures for social media”. We want to please the digital world already.

So the next big step in this phase will be virtual reality because of these 5 things, senses. Playing video games with friends is going to come to a point where it isn’t enough. What if you can put a headset on and see them as well ? Talk to them and even touch them while they are nowhere near you in real life. What if you were able to go to clubs and meet people from the comfort of your home. Some may say it’s dumb and they rather do it in person but the world is changing and the new generations are coming up completely submerged into the digital world so it will be a normal thing to them.

VR tech brings us into a complete virtual universe where you can go anywhere you want. I personally live in a different state than my friends because I recently moved. Since we can’t meet up often in real life we meet up in the virtual world (some may call it the metaverse). We go to comedy clubs and hear jokes, go to clubs and dance, go to house parties, and socialize with people from all over the world ; all from our homes.

Talking on the phone is cool but I’m pretty sure most people would be satisfied if they could see their friends without actually being around them. Kids nowadays are growing up doing the same things I just talked about, on games like Roblox. It’s a digital world where they can met with friends and go to all types of different places, parties, and games. Whilst theirs is on a screen we are on an actual virtual headset from a first person point of view to give us the real feeling. Once these kids get a hold of this I guarantee they will never ever go back.

Now the part I just talked about is only from the perspective of the youth, future, and consumers. What about the benefits VR tech will have on the world. One of the biggest examples of how VR powered tech will benefit the future is health emergencies. If someone is in a place where no surgeon is available for a certain procedure, a surgeon from across the world will be able to perform the surgery using VR technology. This is a life changing technology when used correctly.

I will list a few more examples that I have in mind for VR technology. We know everyone learns different, some like hands on, some learn through listening, some through reading, and some seeing it first hand. Something I think all learners have in common tho is that they can all learn through interactive and experience. With VR technology children and learners in general will be able to learn interactively no matter what the topic is.

People who are learning hands on skills in college will also benefit from the technology because they can use VR tech during their learning period and go into the work field with lots of simulated experience. How many people don’t have enough space on their desk or work area ? Well with VR technology you will have an infinite amount of space to work, organize different tabs and windows, have multiple monitors set up, and much more. One that Is my favorite is how it will help artist and digital artist. Imagine having an unlimited amount of space to paint away and express your creation in that space. VR technology is revolutionary in a world that is accelerated by technology. There is many benefits in this technology and there is benefits that can suit all no matter what you do or what field you work in.

II. AR (Augmented Reality) Technology

Now augmented reality which is something that is also already being used will shape the future as we see it. As people become more submerged into the digital world this will also push tech consumers to a point of full satisfaction. But not just consumers, this tech can and will prove that it can be helpful to just about anyone. Imagine you’re on vacation in a foreign country where the native language is not the same as yours. Normally you would not be able to read anything, signs, store fonts, prices, etc. Until you put these glasses embedded with a powerful chip that will instantly translate all these words into English for you !

I don’t think anyone would turn down that type of technology. Or imagine if your walking down the street with your AR glasses on and it’s giving you live directions on where to go. You won’t have to worry about walking with your head down in a vulnerable position. You will walk around like you grew up in that area !

AR technology submerges the physical in the digital world together to give you a unique experience all around. Me being someone who loves to learn about many things AR technology will help we with that greatly. I will be scanning things in my environment to learn about them such as different animals, plants, foods, and many other things. I can also see these being a great use at monumental places, for example imagine if you go to the Grand Canyon and when you get there the AR glasses guide you on and inform you about what you are seeing. The history, the depth, and everything else there is to learn about it.

AR tech Is probably my favorite out of IOT because of its simplicity, normal looking glasses that transforms your whole world ! Later on I can even see interactive games with other people who have on AR glasses, such as digital ping pong, digital pool, and much more. With tech like this the possibilities are endless and they can advance your life and knowledge in many ways if used correctly.

Quantum Computing Technology

Now after I’ve talked about these advanced forms of tech we will have in future you may be wondering what will power all of this high level AI. Well that’s gonna be when quantum computing chips finally are made. Now the reason we don’t have them now is because we still haven’t even figured out quantum computing yet. Let me put it into perspective for you how powerful quantum computing is. For starters quantum computing is a whopping 158 million times faster than the most powerful computer we have today. It can do in 4 minutes what a supercomputer would take 10,000 years to accomplish.

Now you may be thinking, do we really need computers faster than the ones we have already ? We actually don’t but actually do at the same time. Classical computers manipulate ones and zeroes to crunch through operations, but quantum computers use quantum bits or qubits. Just like classical computers, quantum computers use ones and zeros, but qubits have a third state called “superposition” that allows them to represent a one or a zero at the same time. Instead of analyzing a one or a zero sequentially, superposition allows two qubits in superposition to represent four scenarios at the same time. Therefore, the time it takes to crunch a data set is significantly reduced.

When I talked about data collection I said “Everyday we produce about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data which is a staggering amount of data. I don’t think anyone in the world can read all this data in a lifetime.” Well quantum computing can process that data at a high rate than AI can do today. Which means deep learning produced from quantum computing will be on an unimaginable level. We will 100% see AI start to develop consciousness (and they already are). The chips themselves produced from this very powerful form of computing will indefinitely power the future of technology. AR glasses will be able to process information at a high rate because of these chips.
