Apple has been the greatest company of the past decade without a doubt. Not even including the 2 trillion dollar market cap making them the most valuable company. The influence, social status, and the innovative simplicity, has paved the way for apple to be the most successful company we have ever seen. 25% percent of people in the world have an iPhone, as 90% of other phones fall under the category of android making this statistic very impressive on apple’s end. Apple has become the standard for most forms of technology, laptops (MacBook), Headphones (AirPods), phones (iPhone), smart watches (apple watch), and even entering spaces like streaming, tv, and gaming services. Owning any of these items as an apple product comes with a social status or a social “acceptance”. No one really cared for bluetooth headphones until AirPods came out, same with watches as well. Which is why I think apple will take the virtual reality industry by storm with Apple VR.

Like I previously mentioned no one really cared about bluetooth earphones until apple came out with AirPods. Virtual Reality is something that not a lot of people are that much excited about especially after the metaverse hype died out. All the talks about virtual reality and metaverse have become merely one big meme. But with apple all things are definitely  possible. With apples funds, powerful chips and tech, high influence, and all resources needed, Apple has what it takes to make virtual reality technology something common in everyone’s home. We have an article about Virtual Reality for those who aren’t familiar with the topic.

Meta Oculus Quest VR

The only company that has been close to achieving this is Meta formally known as Facebook with its Meta Quest 2 headset. Along with this the new Oculus Quest Pro is expected to be announced on October 11, during the Meta Connect event. For a long time it was sold out in most retailers as well. We all know Apple is way more influential than Facebook now known as Meta, which is more reason as to why I think Apple will dominate the VR space. Smaller companies also have VR headsets but most of them are very pricey and need external connection to run properly such as higher end computers.

What We Know About Apple VR

The focus of Apple on VR technology has been confirmed which has people more eager to get their hands on this technology. On July 20, 2021 Apple won a patent for an AR/VR headset hinting at the development of this technology. Since then It is said they now have at least 3 patents for this technology as well. Apple has also acquired trademarks for the names “Reality one” and “Reality Pro”. If we analyze that info alone we can infer that Apple is planning to release VR technology. Mark Gurman form Bloomberg claimed that the Apple headsets are aimed for a release in 2023. He also says that it can include the new Apple M2 chip, I mentioned earlier Apple’s powerful chips can be a big reason why its VR technology can be a success. The price is rumored to be on the high end of $2,000-$2,500 USD. At first glance this price may seem high but I’m sure Apple will have payment plans like they have with their other products. A more affordable option is expected to be released in 2025. Apple is expected to compete against the upcoming Oculus Quest pro, and PS VR 2.

Usage case

Something that will also determine the success of Apple’s VR technology is the usage case. Will Apple have its own social world like Meta has horizon worlds where people can interact with each other in player created worlds like comedy clubs, parties, clubs, and much more. Gaming is also a big usage for VR technology which is also something that can bring its popularity to another level. The gaming industry is expected to grow to $321 billion USD by 2026. Learning is also something that can push this technology to a new level of success. VR technology allows more immersive and hands on experience for education of all sectors. In a lot of schools iPads are used to help kids with education, imagine if Apple can pull this off with its VR technology as well. With Apple’s powerful M2 chip it can bring the power needed to succeed in these use cases. Not mentioning that this technology is in its early stages and has potential that we cannot yet fathom.

The way I look at it Apple has no reason to fail in this specific space and has the power to be the leader in VR/AR technology. But that’s my opinion ! Let us know what you think in the comments !
