It seems like forever whenever we wanted to know something the phrase was “google it”. Well that’s not the case anymore. In 2021 the famous app Tik Tok overtook google as the most visited website. Looks like the younger generation has a new way of taking in information.
TIk Tok
TIk Tok has a special way of presenting content to its consumers. When you first open the app you’re forced to watch content. TIkTok consists of two main pages, the “Following” page and “For You Page”. Most of the content consist of quick 15-30 second videos.
This makes Tik Tok easy to use for everyone whilst also making it very addictive. Tik Tok is known for its unorthodox algorithm that makes it very easy for anyone with any type of content to get a large amount of views.
How did they do it ?
Now that tik tok is the number one app it has changed the way people take in content. Tik Tok’s quick content form has made it hard for most people to take in information the traditional way (ex. Reading Articles). Which is exactly why Tik Tok is paving its way to become the number one search engine in the world. People have fully adopted Tik Tok’s way of content. Now when there’s breaking news people are straying away from googling it. They are simply using the TIk Tok search engine. Why ? Because Tik Tok will give them the information in a short format form. The users of Tik Tok dont have the attention span to sit and read a whole article. Therefore it leads them right back to tik tok. When Russia’s invasion of Ukraine happened everyone was making videos on TIk Tok explaining what is going on. Some even did it in a comedic way. This made it quicker, easier, and entertaining for consumers.
Instead of the traditional anchor voice news reporters use that we are all tired of, above she explains the situation in a fun way that people can not only understand but also makes them actually interested. The key is giving information whilst entertaining. One user in the comments stated “Somehow this finally makes sense”.

As day to day life moves faster and faster then of course we will see things like this happen. Tik Tok is showing us the future of how people will take in information, or should I say the present. Google has been king for along time but no one can be king forever. We even see Facebook’s reign looking like its coming to an end. It looks like we are entering a new paradigm which opens opportunity if your on the right side.
